Default Re: Is this solenoid

Peggy, Welcome to BGW.

What peddle on what cart? A little more background info would help a lot.

Usually when a solenoid only clicks, there is something wrong with the high current circuit that it controls, or it could be the internal high current contacts within the solenoid. But any part of the circuit that the solenoid controls could be the fault. A quick test to see if the problem is with the contacts within the solenoid is to first put on a pair of safety glasses. Then get a pair of jumper cables and connect one end of the red wire to one large terminal of the suspected solenoid and then touch the other large terminal of the solenoid with the red clip on the other end of the jumper cable. If it is the starter solenoid, when you touch, but not connect this second end of the jumper cable to the second large terminal of the solenoid, the starter motor should engage. There will be sparks when you touch the terminal, but you have to make a good contact with the terminal for the starter to actuate. Don't clip the lead on, just touch it together and be prepared to remove it quickly.

So how about some more information about what vehicle you have and what you are trying to do.
