Help wiring ‘98 Taylor Dunn R680
Hi, I have a ‘98 Taylor Dunn R680. I’m looking for a wiring diagram (the repair manual I have doesn’t include the electrical system).
It uses a 6 pole (double throw) starter solenoid, a Hitachi GSB107-04a Starter-Generator and a Voltage Regulator (D+, DF, D-). When I press the gas peddle the starter solenoid makes a rapid ticking sound and the car won’t start. If I bridge the large contacts on the Start Solenoid it starts fine (but it’s not charging). The rear end of the starter solenoid has the ground for the electromagnet on the front of the start solenoid. That means that when I press the pedal the solenoid is activated (which moves the magnet to the front bridging the main contacts and sending 12v to the starter), but that disconnects the ground and so the magnet slams back to the back disconnecting the starter and back and forth. I found some wiring diagrams from Dixie Electronic, but my car isn’t wired like any of the examples. Any suggestions? |

Re: Help wiring ‘98 Taylor Dunn R680
See if you can find your electrical diagram here. Google is your friend.
https://www.google.com/search?q=tayl...hrome&ie=UTF-8 I was once the Fire Marshal of a 3.8 million sq ft research and manufacturing facility. Our fire truck was a Taylor Dunn 3 wheel electric burden carrier something like this one. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&sour...59301115551663. I modified it to carry tools and fire equipment inside the facility. It was mostly used for sensor and alarm testing and for fire extinguisher exchanges. We didn't fight fires with it. We called the real fire company for that. I loved driving that thing. Now in my retirement, I own a 1987 Cushman Truckster for helping to maintain my 3 acre estate. I've restored it to reliable condition, but have no desire to make it like new again. A search of my earlier posts will find photos of it. Charley |

Re: Help wiring ‘98 Taylor Dunn R680
Thanks so much for those links. I've found those sites before (using my friend google), but as far as I can tell they only have wiring diagrams for electric golf carts The R680 is a gas powered 'utility cart.'
According to Taylor Dunn it uses a voltage limiter/regulator "01-680-42" which is apparently no longer supported so I'm looking for an alternative. It uses a hitachi gsb107-04a starter/generator and a 6 pole starter solenoid. I've tried replacing the regulator with DB Electrical GHI6000 (search for B00ZYNGWWS pm amazon), but in circuit the voltage is never going over battery voltage. If I ground out the DF on the starter/generator then I'm getting 16v or so so I'm pretty convinced the problem is in the regulator. I opened up the voltage limiter/regulator (d+, df, d-) and inside it's just a big coil that's connects DF to Ground when the voltage on D+ is under 13 volts and connects DF to D+ when it's over 13 volts. I've tried to find documentation for the hitachi gsb107 online, but my google-** has been failing me -Zeke |

I finally got the diagram from Taylor Dunn (a '98 R680) in case it's useful to someone else.
