Starter/Generator
I have a John Deere Starter/Generator that is driving me nuts.
I bought a brand new unit and it motored on the bench just fine. Installed it in cart with new solid state VR. Battery at 12.8. Starts and runs just fine but won't charge. I have tried grounding the green wire from the DF plug with no results. I just don't know of a positive-absolutely-sure test on the cart to prove that it is either charging or dead. Please help. |

Re: Starter/Generator
I don't know your specific cart at all but the "charging" test is universal. Jack up the back of the cart and place a volt meter on the battery where you should see you will see your 12.8v Run the cart at around 1/2 speed and you should see 14v at the battery give or take. If you don't see this voltage rise at the battery while the cart is running then you aren't charging. If you do then all is well.
