New Kubota RTV500? Good. bad or indifferent?
I'm thinking about buying a new Kubota RTV500. Any bad or good experiences with Kubota RTVs will be appreciated.
I personally love Kubotas L-series tractors but I know there is a lot of difference in the engineering that goes into a tractor versus a UTV. |

we have a few at work, I belive all diesels and they hold up well as long as they aren't near the saltwater, got one about 2 years old on the beach and the frame is all but gone.
Our guys can be abusive, ive seen some bent tie rods and a few of these had some kinda shifter issue but I don't recall exactly what it was but it was a easy fix. Id take one of these any day over a gator or mule. |

Re: New Kubota RTV500? Good. bad or indifferent?
I looked at a 500 about 6 months ago and decided it was too small and it rode like a brick. The CVT trans is a bit tricky to go slow with. It's kind of jerky off the start, but once you're moving it does OK.
There is almost no suspension under that thing. Think of it like being a riding lawn mower with a couple seats. I'm sure it's great if you just want to ride around on a manicured lawn and smooth asphalt roads all day. But if you have rough roads or need to drive off road for anything, it's gonna rattle you to death. If you need a work-horse look at the X900. It costs more, but it's worth it. It's not fast, does about 25mph tops, but the thing is a tank and rides like a Cadillac. We use ours for feeding horses and hardly even notice all the bumps and holes from the hoof prints they leave in the fields. The hydrastatic transmission takes a little getting used to, but it's a dream once you get the hang of it. It stops itself, you hardly ever have to use the brakes. A bit tough to shift when its new, but after it wears in its super easy. Can't beat the hydraulic lift bed either. |

If it’s diesel with a hydrostatic trans it’s probably a 900.
The 500 is a newer model and It doesn’t come with a diesel. Though now that I’m thinking about it I think it was the 400 model that had the CVT trans, and the 500 had a version of the hydrostatic trans, but both have gas engines. |

have two at work. if you ride in dusty places the sponge on the air intake will need cleaned daily. the disk breaks rust up quickly, but still work great. . there a lot louder then ezgo workhorses (we have 5) or Kawasaki mules (have 7).

Re: New Kubota RTV500? Good. bad or indifferent?
Thanks for all the replies. Looks as though we may now have to replace our Cushman Hawk. Since I posted the pic on here a few days ago, I can't get the thing into forward or reverse. It could just be the shift linkage slipped out of adjustment but it could also be something in the transaxle.
Yikes! I had to find a taillight lens replacement for this thing in, of all places, London. Hoping I don't have a big red paperweight with chrome wheels now. Fingers crossed. |

My Hawk has the same problem has no forward and reverse. The engine, body, and tires are in great shape if anyone is interested in a good project. I am located in Middle TN. Replaced mine with a 2018 Honda Pioneer 700-4.

And I'm near Lubbock, Texas if anyone is interested in a Hawk over this way. I've not replaced mine yet but probably will before January.
