Trying to source parts for a 1964-66 Rand Mailster
We are in the middle of a restoration on a 64-66 Rand Mail Vehicle and are needing to find parts for the front drum (shoes, kit, wheel cylinder, etc).
Anyone know where you can find parts for these vehicles? I have checked on Ebay, I am a member of this forum and also the Yahoo Groups for Westcoasters and Cushmans, but so far no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Re: Trying to source parts for a 1964-66 Rand Mailster
Hello, I'm working on a 66 Rand here in Seattle and was wondering if you had had any luck finding a parts source? Mostly in need of a rear axle and ideally brake drum.
Thanks, |

Re: Trying to source parts for a 1964-66 Rand Mailster
I'm not at all familiar with your mailster, but many of these small vehicles use brakes, brake drums, brake cylinders, and master cylinders and steering ball joints that are common to fork lifts and motor vehicles. Some parts are even common to small pickup trucks, so the local auto parts store might be able to help you. You might also try taking the defective parts in to your local forklift repair shop and see if they can match them up. Take the old part, because they aren't likely to have the parts listings or cross references for Rand Mailsters, but they may recognize it if they see it. Be sure to seek out the older parts people, since most of the newer parts guys can't find anything that isn't in their catalogs and cross reference guides. They gave me blank stares when I told them it was for a Cushman. It will take someone who has been in the business for a while who can recognize parts by sight.
While restoring my 1987 Cushman Truckster I that early 80's Ford F100 brake cylinder rebuild kits were identical to those used in Cushman brake cylinders. The master cylinder was identical to those used in some Forklifts, and one was available off-the-shelf for less than 1/2 of the price asked by the online sources. It takes some time and asking around, but you can find many parts this way. The body and chassis were really the only unique parts for these vehicles. The rest of the parts are standard production parts that are made for many different vehicles. The only problem is that the source cross reference lists available today don't list everything that they were ever used in. Charley |

Re: Trying to source parts for a 1964-66 Rand Mailster
I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here. I have a Rand, and some friends of mine have some, and we found out that the brakes are the same as a Nash Metropolitan. Still hard to find, but they can be found.

Re: Trying to source parts for a 1964-66 Rand Mailster
I have a 1966 Westcoaster Mailmaster. I have run across some information on the web that the brake shoes and parts, cylinders were sourced from the Triumph Spitfire sports car made in England. It sounds about like the Nash Metropolitan, that car also used parts from G.B.
