Default Hyundai gas cart

My parents just picked up a Hyundai gas cart(as the title says) for the campground. Paid $1200 and all it needs is some clean up and we need to give some attention to one connection(needs replaced and will probably get that tomorrow). I was wondering what we might be able to do as far as a lift for the cart. I know that there isn't all that much as far as aftermarket because of the short build-time. I have read on a few boards that the Hyundais are a little bit of this and a little bit of that carts(read about the Yamaha G2 and how some parts may work on our cart). I am looking forward to tearing into this one(if I can) and giving it a bit of a lift and repainting it this winter(people my parents got it from had repainted but did a poor job of prep work...needs some filler here and there but nothing major, year old paint flaking off).

Any ideas on what aftermarket may fit or where I could possibly find the parts that would fit? I am looking for a lift and maybe a dash kit. I'll probably fab up a canopy/roof frame and come up with some sort of idea that doesn't end up looking like a golf cart roof.

Yeah, I've done the search on here and I've seen some good ideas(the Mongrel) and I've seen some others as far as what I'd need to make if something won't fit. I have called a place today that doesn't service Hyundais but the guy knew that some Yamaha G2 parts will fit. I may just email every online cart shop in hopes that one of them knows what would fit. I grabbed some pics that may or may not help with any ideas. I think we have a couple scraps of diamondplate that will work for my dash(I've got to measure the pieces).

Hey sepe, Nice Hyundai .... To start with, If its mechanically sound? Try to keep it that way. If you can find someone with ANY stock Hyundai parts and you're into keeping the cart, stock, buy them. If you can't find 'em? ...... Make 'em
Welcome to BuggiesGoneWild
The Hyundai and the Yammie G2-9 parts are so close to being the same its ridiculous. So, you can get the lift kit from either of these units and pretty much bolt them on or you can fabricate your own. The rest of the cart's mods are going to depend on how much ruffage($$) you'd like to drop into your cart, and whether or not you like to tinker..... do things for yourself. Beware Now, these things are highly addictive. You'll find yourself buying 3,or 4 or 5 of them, lol.
Check out all of the posts you can, and I'll bet you'll find the top you want on one cart ..... the lift on another, and different ideas that you just gotta try on other ones.

For me it was hard getting anyone outside of BGW to even be able to tell you what MIGHT fit what. There are quite a few knowledgeable folks in here. and they don't mind having ideas bounced off of them occasionally. The terms boat-anchor, lawn ornament and POS will be used by some don't let it bother you .......... have fun with it.

I was hoping that you'd chime in. Techinically, it is my parents cart so I'm not really too concerned with the hp of it. If it'll turn bigger tires, it is going to be fast enough. Campground has a 5 1/2 mph speed limit and security that will revoke your permit for getting to crazy.

I've got a background(degree) in automotive technology so I don't think this will be too much of an issue. Also spent a couple years running manual mills and lathes(and doing some programming on CNC machines). Knowing that the G2 lift will work(even if I've got to use a BFH to massage pieces). The only thing I didn't really want to try to make was the lift. The top support, I've already got some pretty good ideas(also going to make sure that the materials are big enought that stereo wiring will be easy).

I've already decided that the blue paint is gone over the winter. It'll get some TLC on the body(it has some scrapes and light gouges).

I kind of like having to do the research and figure out what would work the first time building a cart. I'm already wanting to pick up a 6 passenger or maybe a workhorse to tinker with when I've got the extra cash.

If I was to have it to do on another Hyundai I'd get in touch with Tom over at CPP and ask him about this lift kit ....... Fairly inexpensive and looks like you get the whole enchilada. http://www.cartpartsplus.com/yamaha-lift-kit-and.html . Plus someone to bounce ideas off of that doesn't seem to mind listening and giving honest feedback.

Also Call on Goat53 if you get the hankerin' , he just went through a rebuild with a Big Block conversion. Me being a tinkerer I do a lot of mods where some would say I don't really need to. On mine, I just figured if I was going to have to get knee-deep into the Mongrel, I was going to get knee-deep INTO the Mongrel. Besides she had cancer pretty bad once I looked at it. I reasoned, if I was going to have to replace a two foot section of frame .... Why not add a three foot piece in its a place? . I'd probably be riding by now if I had done things a little more reserved...... Ah WTF,

Its not a 4WD by any means ........ but with the lug tires, clutch, engine and stuff, if it has half the Ooomph that my bone stock sparky EZGO does (wid' bald headed tires) she'll be fine ......

Just a thought ......... Get the Security Services coming down there checking out your progress and stuff, maybe doing some work on their own, they're liable to cut you some slack ...... 5.5 MPH is gonna get you in trouble fast ... LOL .

Good Luck

lol someone a few spots over has a harley 3 wheeler tiller that is running like complete junk...already had a tune-up because it stopped pulling itself several times. backfires constantly and goes MAYBE 3mph.

yeah, that kit you linked was the one I was looking at. also looking at keeping the 8"s and putting bigger tires on them to save costs...the lift will be 99.9% for looks. repaint the wheels before the tires go on and keep it clean.

I already know what I'm going to look for when I start looking for mine...it won't be a Hyundai and it won't be older than a 2000. lol I want to be able to find parts all day long.

Right now I'm kicking myself because we had a barn find that was a 400cc snowmobile engine that we took to a family friend that loves to tinker with small engines. I guess I didn't lay enough claim on it because when my parents cleaned out their pole building that was one of the things to leave. Also had a 4 wheeler rear end. Could've made something interesting. This cart, since it is theirs I've got to leave it semi tame. A couple of retired folk don't have the same opinions as I do. They'd be perfectly fine leaving it as it is but I've said I've pay for what I put on it as I'll be using it at the campground when they're not staying there.

Underneath the backseat will end up with a 10" sub(maybe an 8" depending on space) and there will be some 6 1/2"s in the body under the front seat.

I guess the guy wanted $1500 for the Hyundai and without talking him down any, he said $1200. They had spoke to him about one of his trailers so he thought maybe giving a break would sway them to spend more money.

I sent Tom an email about the lift and a few other questions. Thanks for the help.
