Default Newbie with the 1961 golfster, GOT IT STARTED, question 2

Ok, spent 2 weekends tracing the electrical. I changed the plugs, battery cables, and a few wires that simply looked old. I changed the fuel filter, fuel lines and pressure tested the tank. I took the carb apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. I also did a compression test of the engine 100 and 98 respectively. Put some starting fluid in the carb and what do you know, it starts!!!! HOWEVER, it does not idle, and will only stay running while I gas the engine. I am thinking coils and condenser. Am I on the correct path? Also anything else I may be missing? Where is the best place online to purchase these items?
Thanks for all the input, I promise pictures soon.

Jeff, can you massage the choke and keep it running? If so...it is running lean
RuppParts.com is a guru on the golfsters.

I will change the points and condenser this weekend. Also changing all fuel lines as they are in poor condition. Removed the rear wheels this past weekend and wire brushed, emery clothed, primed and repainted. Will find new tires this week.
Can't keep it running just by moving the choke. has to be revved. BUT will know more after the fuel lines which I believe are collapsing and drawing air thru cracks.

make sure your rubber TEE behind the carb is not cracked and the clamps are tight

The rubber tee is gone and replaced with a brass t connection. Also discovered a broken spring that I will replace this weekend. Question on tires. Can I use any 18x8.5x8 tires for all three tires or do I need a special tire for the front?

brass T connection?...that connects the aluminum casting(that carb is mounted to) to each steel intake tube?

If you have hi speed rear gears, you need to stay away from the lawnmower type tires and put a narrow frt tire and rim on frt. It will never drive proper with a wide front tire @ speed.
If your going to leave the cart to run the speeds like it was made for...the tires you mentioned will be just fine

I have had mine 53mph....@ 53 it is spooky....but @40 its a cake walk to drive(1 finger and thumb on steering wheel).....where with the fat frt tire and lawn mower original type tires...18mph was flat out SCAREY!!!

I see in your pics..the rubber T is in place....the 1 behind the carb close to the firewall....it connects the 2 steel tubes of the intake to the alum housing the carb is bolted too

check it and be sure is has NO cracks....even on the bottom side
