96 gas melex cuts off intermitently

I have a 96 gas melex 512g. It has a new battery, fuel lines and gas filter. I have replace the engine, same as original-red 9hp briggs and stratton. The engine came with a new carb on it. My problem is: it starts up fine, goes in forward and reverse but it just seems when you are driving it for some reason the engine just seems to shut down. You could drive it 100yds sometimes before this happens, sometimes you can only go 20yds and this happens. It will go fine up or down a hill until this happens. Any Ideas? Im new to this golf cart repair thing. Is there something Im missing? there are no obstructions in the air intake, and the muffler seems to be working fine, no change when I loosen this up. The gas pumps out of the fuel pump when the engine turns over, although It doesnt seem like much. Also when it shuts down, All I have to do is Stop Wait a few second, step on the gas and it runs fine until it decides to shut down again. Any helpful tip from one of you golf cart guru's would be helpful

Looks like it's a fuel (lack of it) problem. Check the fuel pump and clean the carb. Also look for leaks in the fuel lines.

By the way, what happened to the old engine? If you don't need the primary clutch, I am interested to buy it. Just the primary clutch. Pls. pm me.

Apparently I figured it was something wrong with the engine because it sat for about 4 years. So since it runs I guess I will use it for spare parts. I bought the new engine from a company in indiana. I found it on ebay for 348.00 with free shipping. I just looked up briggs and stratton engines on ebay.

Sounds like the vented cap might not be working correctly. Make sure you have the right vented gas cap.
