Default Hyundai Suzuki v270g rebuild

I picked up a Hyundai golf cart for cheap to use as a "daily driver" for those times when I don't want to wear a helmet, or I want to have a drink or two.

The suzuki appears to be in the same boat as everyone elses. Smokes HORRIBLY and has pretty bad rod knock.

I know the pitfalls of finding parts, so I'm going to see how cheaply I can rebuild it. If I can't do it for under 100 I'll probably either buy a predator or throw in the rebuilt 16hp vanguard that's been collecting dust in the garage for 13 years.

Here is what I've gathered from the internets:

Bore is 75.5mm with a pin diameter of 18mm

The stock 76mm piston from a KVF300 will work with an overbore.

Quote:
Hyundai carts with Suzuki V270G engine have a 75.5mm piston. The piston from a Kawasaki (KVF300 99-02, KEF300 95-03, KLF300 85-04 STD bore) engine is 76mm OD. The wrist pin and piston height are exact replacement.

Piston kit: PM700-2003-STD from peakmoto.com for $70
sheet of Head gasket material can be purchased from NAPA for $20

I'm not sure about the big end of the rod, I'm assuming that there is no bearing and I'll need to find another rod for it, possibly undersized.

Anyone else have any input on these rare birds?

Seems like a nice little cart and has okay power as built.

Might start trying to tear it down this week, at the very least I'll document and measure what I find.

Digging around a little, I think there is a good chance that the engine in an arctic cat AC4000GD2E generator is the same engine. I looked at a 2500 watt arctic cat generator and it has a v240 suzuki engine in it. The 4000 watt gens are labeled as 272cc, but I have a feeling it's the same engine.

I don't know about making parts cheap, but I think they might be available through AC, any suggestions?

Well, threw the rod yesterday on the way to the deer stand. Thinking the cheapest route will be a part out of the Zuk and replace with a clone.

Good morning all,
I have a lifted Hyundai gas golf cart with a 8.5 Susuki engine, it runs great, but its starting to smoke, I like the cart, but need to rebuild the engine, any ideas or should I put in a new power house and if so what is a good replacement.

You can get a piston for less than $100. My rod was starting to knock, then broke so I replaced with a bigger engine.

Mr Larboc, I have a 91' Suzuki powered Hyundai gas cart, and it could use a motor and definitely needs a forward clutch[yesterday!].What motor did you put in yours ,how hard was it?, and costs? I appreciate your info. Thanks, Les Louisburg, N.C.

Take a look at my last reply, there is a link to the whole build. It took a little more work to shove the LCT 414cc in it than a smaller engine would have been. A little smaller clone would have almost bolted in, but wheres the fun in that?
