Jacobsen hauler 3500-no drive
So, we've got this beat up old Jacobsen Hauler 3500 here that suddenly lost its ability to drive. The clutch sheaves appear to be working properly, but the rear wheels will only spin when I've got the rear end jacked up, and even then the wheels are not moving as fast as they should be, or at the same speed as each other. I think the rear end has quit. There are no noises coming out of the differential case, and the input shaft is not loose. Does anyone here have an exploded parts view of this rear end, or some related pages from a service manual that they would be willing to share? I'd like to be able to fix it, but I don't know if the powers that be would be willing to spend the money for a whole new read end unit.

Could it be a stipped hub like on Ezgos? The reason I'm thinking it's a possibility is you said the wheels turn but at different speeds when you take the pressure off of the rearend it can let the stripped hub turn some just by friction .

Re: Jacobsen hauler 3500-no drive
It's normal for the rear wheels to drive at different speeds. That's because of the differential. I would put the brake on and try to spin the wheels with the engine while watching the belt and the clutches. You will see where the power stops! It just may be a worn belt or stuck clutch, and being cold as hell doesn't help!
Edit: What "big mule" said is a good possibility too! I just blew up your photo, and it looks like EZGO hubs. Take the dust caps off and have someone look at the hubs when you try to move the cart. If the large nut spins and the drum doesn't the hub is stripped. :) |

And worse case, one of the members here has some rears for sale cheap. May have to make some mods but wouldn't be bad. However, I'm thinking hub as well
