Default West Point 3-Wheeler Truck/Cart???

Hi everyone, my names Brad, this is my first post on this site. I recently purchased this odd looking 3 wheeled truck. I found it about 5 miles from where I live by mistake. I actually work on small engines as a hobby and buy fix and resell lawn tractors to fund the restoration and upkeep of my old tractors that I take to shows and what not. Anyway, this is how I stumbled across this West Point 3 wheeled truck/cart.....I was taking a longer route to a guys house to pick up some lawn tractors when I seen this along side the road for sale. I was able to get the guy down from the $350. asking price to $275. It runs and drives but definitely needs some TLC. It has a 12 hp Kohler Engine which im used too seeing in some of my tractors I come across. It does run and drive in forward but not in reverse unless going backwards down hill. It doesnt charge the battery, needs a new floor for the bed and not to mention a paint job. I took a bunch of photos yesterday and will post some below. I am trying to find some info on it and am having quite a hard time. Also I dont know anything about this forward and reverse transmission. I have to slowly engage the transmission into forward to move almost like engaging a clutch?? If I dont move it out of gear and into nuetral I cant stop it. Is this normal?? Im new to these things....

Welcome to BGW.

Your recent find looks like an early Cushman Truckster. Here is a similar photo found on the internet. I think the one that I found is about a 1966 but I could be wrong. I have never heard of a builder of these vehicles named West Point, but it's certainly possible that it was made by a company other than Cushman.

Sorry, but I have no experience with any Cushmans or other little vehicles this old, except to know that Cushman did use 12 hp engines and Reeves style split pulley clutches back then. Lets hope someone else will respond who can help you better.
