Muffler Wrap??
Hey guys. I am trying to quite my car down some. I am planning on adding sirius radio later this winter and want to hear the music not so much the engine. Do you think muffler wrap would help quite things down a little?? I am already in the middle of installing Dynamat under the body & just looking for a few other ideas to help out. THANKS!

Re: Muffler Wrap??
I don't believe muffler/header wrap will do anything for sound. Its made for heat insulation. I wrapped mine and their is no change in sound.

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Never tried it but I bet it would help quiet the can and pipe to can. The only fiberglass matting in my muffler is under the end caps of the can. Make sure the exhaust gasket and pipe clamp isn't leaking too, I've found the hard way how much that changes it! :)

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Insulating the body is a better way to reduce the noise. There are many sound deadening materials on the market today, just try googling sound deadening / proofing materials, and several come up. Good Luck.

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Thanks for the input guys I did purchase some Dynaliner to replace the old insulation. Atleast this stuff is suppose to be oil & water resistance so that is a plus by its self if it works out. The muffler gasket is good, I just replaced it few months ago. I guess the answer is time will tell & like everything else on these things all it takes is money

Re: Muffler Wrap??
WVHarley, what thickness Dynaliner dynamat did you get, 1/8" or 1/2" ? How are you planning to adhere it to the underside of the body? Let us know how well it works.
I had a friend that used that spray foam in a can with great results, I was thinking of doing that in the spring. Andy said it adhered very well to the fiberglass. He said he used several different size pieces of plywood, stapled wax paper , or freezer paper to the boards with the wax side up, that way the foam didn't stick to it. Did it in sections, keeping the boards around an inch off the fiberglass, hardens quick, was able to complete his cart in less then 1 1/2 hours, says it trims easy too. Bought it @ Home Depot, the dense foam, cost him around $35.00, used his wifes wax paper, lol, its still a very light body. He then sprayed painted it with spray paint made for plastic, black, I seen it , looks great, he said it really quieted his cart down, I was unable to verify it cause he had the top half of the motor apart. |

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Isn't most of that spray foam stuff kinda really flammable?

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Thats what I said,I wouldn't be smoking while applying it, but i don't smoke anyway after it cures not so flammable , same stuff used on hot tubs, and in homes, Andy has run it sense early summer , and hasn't burned up yet I still want to hear his cart run before i try it, stopping back over his place this weekend for hunting, hoping its back together, so i can hear if its quieter. Maybe I'll see if it lights, while I'm there.

Re: Muffler Wrap??
Watch the heat wrap it will keep heat in. Might not be good for these motors. Lowe's sell Frost King for 18.99 I believe 12" x 180". I use it on my boat engine compartment. Works great for noise and holds up great. A lot cheaper then DynaMat.
