Re: 73 model D
Everything has ball bearings in it so worst case you will have to replace the bearings.

Re: 73 model D
Nothing is ever easy:
Strictly going by memory I believe that there are four different bearings in there. Check out this link for repair and parts manuals: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/colum...uals-HD-Parts/ Get the names / part numbers you need from the manuals then do some internet searching for the best deals. The good news is that all of the bearings can still be found at just about any big golf cart supplier. Heck as those bearings were used for many different applications (golf carts / automotive / other machines) you can probably even find them at any bearing shop. Replacing the bearings normally requires a hydraulic press and and the right dies. It takes a pretty sophisticated home workshop to pull it off. I replaced the crank shaft bearings on one of my carts last year. I ordered the parts I needed then took the whole motor to my local machine shop who pressed the old bearings off and the new bearings on. It cost me $70 but that's a heck of a lot cheaper than me having to get a press and the right dies. Note that, although you are only looking to replace the bearings, there will be some other parts that will get destroyed in the process and will need to be replaced as a result; crank gaskets and oil seals. Those are cheap though so don't sweat it too much. |

Re: 73 model D
Oh another thing, with the money you are about to drop on that cart you are probably not too far away from acquiring a whole different cart altogether. You may want want to keep your eye out for some beater somewhere with a motor that isn't frozen then just swap the motors out. Anything from the late 1960s to 1981 should work for you. Just a thought.

hey guys and gals I talked to the guy I got the 73 from he said it did run when he parked it but now crank if stuck doesn't budge but if you unbolt cylinder it does slide up and down piston fine and cylinder looks good didn't remove cylinder completely yet but I was wondering if any of you had luck getting these engines freed up without a complete rebuild not in a hurry to get going its a project that im gonna take my time on

Re: 73 model D
I say if it is locked up its now a paper weight unless you have a lot of time, money & know how to put into it. just my opinion. GOOD LUCK what ever route you go.
