Re: harly golf cart
CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: harley golf cart
Help us out here. Does that thing have a vin you can post? That should tell us the year. When you say it doesnt run, does the starter turn or do you have no action at all?

Re: harley golf cart
Not sure you have found the model number Van wert, I think it should have some letters in it. Check on the frame usually on the drivers side, near the rear wheel. Before you start shopping for a new carburetor, consider rebuilding the one you have. Its not a difficult job to do, and some of the after market carbs can be crap, so you need to be careful. This link has several cart manuals that might help you identify your cart if your cart no longer has the model / serial plate attached to it. Also I attached a pic with what your plate might look like. Keep us posted.

Re: harley golf cart
Perhaps he just got the serial number part? The first two digits are the model, middle stamped is the actual serial number and the last 2 are model year.
If it says Columbia he has to have at least an 82. That should have a Walbro type of carb with a bowl. Cleaning the bowl area and checking the needle and seat would be a good place to start. IT would also have an external fuel pump with 3 lines, in out and the vacuum pulse to the crank case. |

Re: harley golf cart
You have an 82-85 Columbia (pretty much the same as Harley). "Tech Support" here may be able to tell you the exact year.
I have 3 of those carts although one is for parts only. I don't like the later Columbias (after 1986) but I love the earlier 80s ones. We need to check the obvious things first: 1) Pull your fuel line (from gas tank to carb) off of your carb then crank that sucker. You should have a pretty good amount of gas coming out of that line when the starter is turning. If not you have a fuel issue to correct. 2) Take your spark plug out, put the spark plug wire back on, then ground it by holding the base of the plug to the motor somewhere. Crank that sucker again and see if you have spark. 3) If these things don't work you probably want to check your compression. Should be 90 psi + but anything over around 75-80 should work. Still have some things to figure out but let's get the basics out of the way. |
