no spark
Ok I was working on the Harley today. Here’s what’s going on when I press the gas it turns over and no spark, but after you let off right before it stops there’s a spark.

Re: no spark
Sounds like there is no voltage to the coil until the gas pedal is off so the micro switch may be wired wrong. Check for voltage on the coil when the key switch is on. When you were working on it what did you change or where were you working?

Re: no spark
I was working on it at home for myself. I do have the manual for it so it has a wiring diagram. I rewired it right from the switch. Do you have to have the engine grounded to the frame or the battery? I did take the coil off and it tested ok 13 ohms. The only thing it did not show was those wires on the coil. Negative went to the points and the posetive went to the switch to the gas pedal.
still can't figure it out?????????? |

Re: no spark
The engine is grounded to the engine and frame. The key here is a voltage check! Turn the ignition key on and check voltage on the + side of the coil. (should have nothing). With the key on and the gas pedal pressed and starter running, you should have voltage on the + terminal of the coil. Check the voltage! Yes, negative goes to the points and positive to the gas pedal switch.

Re: no spark
With the key on and the gas pedal up check and see if there is 12 volts to the coil. Turn the engine to open the points before you check the voltage. To help you more I have to know when there is voltage on the coil!

Re: no spark
I did the test and on the postitive side, there is 11.74 volts. I also jumped the two big terminals on the solenoid. When I did that, the cart had good spark.

Re: no spark
It sounds like the wiring to the solenoid is not right. Jumping the two large terminals should work the starter only. The voltage to the coil should be there only when the key switch is in the on position. Move the small wire that is on one large terminal to the hot side. If you have a wiring diagram follow the red wire from the accelerator switch to the battery + terminal.
