Default 1982 2 stroke gas Harley golf cart carb issues

Hay guys please somebody help me! I have an 1982 model Harley golf cart with carb issues. And for some reason it's different than 1981 and all the rest. It sat for a while so needed to be cleaned so I did that now it is flooding real bad. This carb only has one screw on the side of it. I read that it should be set between 1 1/2 two 1 13/4 turns out. This not work. I can not find any information on this carb. It does not have a hi/low screw just the one on the side plus the one for idle set/stop. Model on carb says its a LBM 230-1. All the pictures I see are not like this one. Can somebody help me get this set up?

An 82 would technically be a Columbia cart. 81 and 82 were odd years. It appears that for 81 AMF was running out of parts and substituting other things in and then when Columbia took over for 82 they used up what was left over so there can be some oddities to start with not to mention they are 30 years old now so more things could have been swapped.

82 should be a Walbro carb with a float bowl which is similar to later ones and a lot different than earlier models. Only having one mixture screw sounds correct, its just a low speed screw. The main mixture is set by a fixed jet which goes up the center of the bowl. Mine had troubles like yours. What it turned out to be was some crud in the bore the needle runs in causing the needle to stick. It was a pain to find something small enough and hard enough to get in there and clean it but when I finally did a lot of white powder came out and its been fine ever since.

Has this still got an original style fuel pump on it? Its got 3 hoses on it? from fuel tank, to carb, and a line to the crankcase? If its got an electric pump on it it may have too much pressure. These little carbs can't deal with a lot of pressure.

Yes I am still running original metal fuel pump. So this main jet which is inside up through the centre of the carb is there a setting for this ? Is it threaded in all the way with a specific torque. This centre jet is just a piece of brass with holes in it. It's not a needle as such. The cart when sitting does not leak fuel but as soon as I start cranking it starts dumping out the carb through the air side lots and I mean lots. Could the float affect that symptom or my thinking is that if the floats were badly adjusted it would leak gas all the time cause the needle would never seat. What is my low mixture screw setting ? I want to get this cart fixed up so I can use it. Parts are very hard to find even for the carb is there another solution with a different carb that's cheaper and more readily available ?

I run Mikuni carbs on my carts. I use Mikuni BV18s but other guys use Mikuni BV24s. These are the same carbs that were used on early 80s era EZGo carts and have the same bolt pattern as the HD / Columbias so they bolt right on. These carbs are still produced today so they are easy to find and not too expensive. I think around $70.

A couple of notes should you want to convert:

1) You'll have to flip the choke lever from one side to the other. This is a simple task.
2 You'll have to fashion some type of apparatus to hold the air cleaner hose to the new carb. This is a bit more of a pain and take a bit of craftiness but it's manageable.

Performance between Walbro and Mikuni is the same.

Oh, and parts for that cart shouldn't be all that hard to find. I am not aware of any wearing parts that aren't available at multiple places.

Float valve is probably not adjusted, stuck, or part left out!
