Default New Crankshaft

Well, I've had my cart for a year. I've got the frame stripped and painted along with new wheels and tires. I finally got enough parts to have a local snowmobile builder make me a good as new crankshaft. Now that I have it back, I'm looking at the procedure to put the lower end back together and it calls for Loctite 601 to bond the crankshaft to the inner bearing race. Does anyone know where I can get that? I can't find it anywhere in town and the only places online are shipping from overseas? Any ideas???? Any other advice on putting lower ends back together would be appreciated. Thanks!

Loctite 271 red is the current 'permanent' consumer product which I would think is what you would want for this application. The blue the the normal stuff that is supposed to be removable with hand tools.

601 is a small-gap retaining compound, not a thread locker.
609 should be it's current equivalent

Makes sense. For some reason I was thinking it was threaded. Don't know where I got that idea.

Well I finally found a store that can order Loctite products. He said the 609 was rated to 300 degrees farenheit, but that I could get 620, which was also a small gap retaining compound, and that was good up to 450. So I went with that, hopefully its sufficient. It should be here in a few days and hopefully I can get it together and let ya know. I'm excited to get the bottom end done so I can finally put a top end on and finally have a running motor!

Well I've started assembling the lower end, I kind of screwed one of the oil seals when pressing it in. I guess i'll probably have to order a new one, I don't want to go to the trouble of all this and have problems with the seals. It's not that bad I guess, just a little crease along the edge, anyone know how delicate those seals are? If it would still work or not?

Also, I was a little confused on which way the seals go in. The flat part of the seal faces the crankshaft correct?

Its best to reorder that seal, if the crankcase sucks air, you will be choking the motor all the time to get it to run. Good Luck.
