Default starter motor gets real hot

A 1973 harley gas model d cart starts off good, but after 15 mins, it just will not restart. forward or reverse. When i put my hand on the electric starter, it is real hot. When i press the gas, i hear the solenoid click, but no go. When i wait an hour, it runs fine.

Check to make sure your fan is in good shape and that all of your cooling fins are free of debris too. Sounds like you could be overheating.

i guess the motor was hot from the south texas sun. My no go problem seems to be in the forward/reverse switch. Now to learn how to fix it. 185 bucks is too much to spend for a rebuilt one
i wish i could find a thread, here, on how to rebuild one.
