Default Metallic "whirling" noise?

Guys,

On one of my carts I have a somewhat loud whirl noise at that gets louder with speed. Mind you, it's not super loud. It's more of just an annoyance. It sounds metallic in nature but it's not a grinding noise. It's tough to describe the noise perfectly. The cart runs great so this is an aesthetic thing mostly.

I added some 90 weight to the differential but that didn't help much. The secondary clutch is brand new so that shouldn't be the cause. Has anyone heard of something like this? I am thinking that the only other things moving fast enough to make this noise are the primary clutch and or something with the axle / bearings. The cart is early 80s era so the clutch is the dry type.

Any thoughts?

Those are good thoughts but we can rule those out. I should have added that I loosened the starter belt and the starter spins almost silently. Also, when I rev the engine with the drive belt off the noise isn't there. So, this noise is being caused from the drive clutch back.

It could be the secondary clutch rubbing on something or its bushing. I would disassemble the clutch and check for worn or bad parts.

hmm is their oil on your brakes? the new cart we got made a horrible noise the faster we went in it. the front drive was new. i figure it failed and slung the oil all over the brakes. i disassembled the brakes and cleaned the pads and disc and that fixed it.

I didn't think about the brake disk. The pad could be worn and have a metal to metal contact. Johnny reb may have put his finger on it!

I'll check the brake for sure. My noise is all of the time, not just when braking but it certainly could be dragging so I am going to check it.

Also check your motor mounts. My motor mounts were bad and I had a noise when the start pulley was rubbing on the secondary clutch but the noise was not constant, Still!

I have a similar kind of noise, at least possibly. I don't really start hearing it until I get half speed or better and I don't remember right off but I don't think it gets much louder. I have no idea where mine is coming from either because when I jack up the rear end, I never hear it. I think alot of the noise from under echos and amplifies while driving. Do you have an audio sample of the noise?
