Does your engine have the flywheel (pre 82 HD engines) at the cage fan side or no flywheel (82 and later Columbia engines)?

It tells you how to check the starter/generator and regulator in the service manual in the electrical section.

Try the 1963_1980_GS

Here are the brushes. Most of the online golf cart places sell them. I don't know about getting them at an autoparts store:

Has it been timed in forward and reverse?

I didn't actually time it yet going to get new points and condenser also maybe a coil mine looks like it might be leaking when its hot the coil has oil on it lol but I was wondering if a coil off of a car would work I have an accell chrome coil bran new in box its 12 volt will it work or are the Harley coils special and I looked in the timing cover and the condenser is mounted on my coil instead of inside with the points theres a screw there for it but they mounted it to the coil and the factory marks are lined up on the plate

My coil isn't factory and it is probably an automotive coil but really don't know. I have no idea how many volts it puts out. Anyways the plug is still gapped at 0.040" (factory specs) and works.

I think the condensor needs to be grounded and if it were me I would put it back where it belongs.

One cart of mine (1974) is using an old Chevy pickup coil and the other is using half of a 1972 Honda CB350 setup. The only worry is an internal current limiting resistor or not. After a point ignition system is a point ignition system. The reason for the resistor is the starting circuit eliminated the resistor for a stronger start spark. When the start key was released and the engine started the engine ran with the resistor in the circuit. Made starting easier! We can use either coil as long as we use it with or without the resistor as the coil requires.
