Default 1973 harley davidson golf cart wont accelerate

Hello, 1973 gas harley davidson 3 wheeler cart with new top end and new tilotson HL-231 carb installed. Ran great for a week, now wont run if the gas is pressed more than just a little bit. It will run with slight gas pedal but when you push it further, it just dies. Now if I half choke it to get it going, then it will rev up and have power and fly down my back yard. This carb doesnt have a high side adjustment so Im stumped.

I bought a new carb for a lawnmower one time and it was full of trash and metal shavings. I found that out about a week later when it acted like it wasn't getting gas. Ran perfect up to that point.

There may be a screen inside for the fuel inlet. Maybe it is stopped up. Maybe the pump diaphram blew out. Looks like you may have to take it apart and clean/check it.

You could also have bad crank seals allowing air to bypass the carburetor.

it dosent take much to clog one up i would take the carb off and clean it also does it have a new fuel filter and check the tank it is metal if there is rust there is a problem. if its rusty there are solutions that will kill it. also i run pure gas in mine it runs better but for some reason when i switch from previous ethanol gas to pure it clogs up the carbs??

Pure gas??? Filter it through a toilet paper roll? I have never heard of pure gas lol. Anyway I can see in side the metal tank. No junk or rust noted which suprized me. Fuel filter was new when I first started using it after the top end rebuild. Right after I replaced the top end, it ran great, no backfires, took right off when gas pedal pressed. YOu might be right, could be a clogged screen. Carb is new off ebay. Thinking it was running lean I thought I could just hold the choke open half way. Well running around after a short bit it started bogging down, so I released the choke and it took right off. So I guess we are down to junk in carb screen, fuel pump needs adjusted, somebody said one way check valve in fuel line. Today I blew out jet for high speed, installed and timed new points.

Yeah crank seals are still knawing at the mind right now too. I ordered 2 crank seals should be here wednesday. Hoping the seals are the same flywheel and drive side for a 1973.

By pure gas he means gas without ethanol in it. Not sure where your at but most gas has ethanol added to it. Only a few if any places in your area will sell pure gas.

I have a Walbro carb sitting here that I've took apart 3 times, cleaned and blew out and still the high speed part is partially clogged. Had to get a new carb.

You can take the fuel line off and blow towards the tank. If you can't blow the valve is working. Then suck on the line and if you can suck gas the valve is working. Be sure to have some water handy because gas tastes 3 times worse with oil in it. The check valve is made with the fuel strainer in the tank.

I could be wrong on your model but I'd say the crank seals are different. They are on mine.

It looks like both side crankshaft seals on yours are indeed the same ones.

took off hose to bottom side of fuel filter and blew back into tank with no resistance......heard bubbles too. when I quit blowing.......fuel ran back up to hose end (had hose raised to top of tank) No restrictions there, but no check valve..........metal tank. Looking at tank in manual...metal tank doesnt show or say strainer and check ball. Just says filter on outside of tank which I have. Plastic tank which I dont have lists check ball....probably because fuel lline goes in from top of tank. So no dice on check ball. So now my moneys on carb fuel pump or crank seals. Dunno if crank seals can go bad really fast. If this carb ran real good out of the box then I would think it could again if it does have some crap in it.

Just got cart running again as generator starter quit starting. Not sure what would kill a starter/generator.
