Default 1970 HD takes along time to start

Cart turns over along time before starting like the carb has trouble priming. Will not start at all if I choke it. Not sure where to start. It has a cheap replacement carb on it now but I have the original. Should I swap them and see what happens?

I would first check for small leaks in the gas line. Also check the check valve. Why was the carb changed? Was it running bad then? You may have a seal going bad.

I am using a Chinese carb on my 1974 and it seems to be a good one. AACO in Evansville is a good place for parts for your HD but most parts are ordered.

Sometimes the carbs get so bad you cant do much with them. I thought about boiling one of mine with cascade to clean it but never did. I just elected to buy a cheap carb and put on mine. Had to redo the linkage mounts for it to work.

Does it start from cold without choking it?

Running too rich! Check your fuel pump to carburetor gaskets and valves.
