How can I check the cooling fan on the 76 HD gas engine and should the cart run with 70psi compression Thank you

Re: Overheats 1976 HD gas
the compression sounds very low. 90 forward 95 reverse is normal. you should be able to see the blades through the screen mesh around the points cover. i have a cart that had all of the blades from the squirrel cage fan stripped. shine a light to see if the fan is ok. but i am going to guess you need a new cylinder/piston.

Yeah, 70 is low. Surprised it's even running at all. You probably threw a ring. Looks like you have a top end rebuild in your future. Don't fret it. Those aren't all that difficult.
What makes you think that the cart is running hot? These things will generate a lot more heat than 4 cycle carts do. That said those fans can get brittle over time and break apart. You may want to pop that fan housing off and check it or at least poke a screwdriver in it to test the blades to make sure they are rigid. |
