Default 1963-1966 Harley Ignition

Hello everyone. I have a 1966 D that I'm nearly finished rebuilding. I have downloaded the maintenance and parts manuals, but they are lacking in information for the ignition system for the 63-66 models. I know I need two micro switches, one is activated by the primary drive and the other is activated by the accelerator pedal. Problem is that I do not know where it is supposed to go.

Also, I have no idea how the governor is supposed to be mounted because it was pulled apart before I could inspect it. If anyone has a picture of the governor, I would love to see it!

Thanks!

So your going to actually mount the governor back on? Most take them off for a reason such as they can require adjustment and inspection. If you not renting the cart out, just restrict your speed to what ever you want to operate your cart. Nuvi GPS are dirt cheap these days and its my speedometer that I use on my cart. just my .02.

I agree. Bag the governor. Not worth the hassle and, in the big scale of things, they don't govern much anyway as top speed on these carts really isn't all that fast. You don't want to drive wide open all the time though. If you are dead set on it you can also limit top speed by adjusting your throttle cable to not allow the throttle butterfly to open all the way when the accelerator is fully depressed.

If you have a smart phone there are a lot of free speedometer apps if you want to check your speed.

the accelerator pedal switch mounts behind the pedal on 60's models then they ran a rod underneath the floor board and used a round disc to activate it on later models it is a plunger type and the other is a lever type with a wheel on the end here is a picture or 2. note i ordered my switches off of ebay. if you order them as a generic switch they are cheaper

Thank you for the replies guys. I believe I will be omitting the governor as it seems superfluous, not to mention unattractive and an additional challenge. And thank you for the drawings and the information Johnny Reb. I found the plunger type on sale for $13. Think Ill use that one!! I should have pictures to post in the next few weeks!!
