Bad seal
hard starting so I pored a little gas in the cylinder Took a bit to fire up I noticed gas on the side of the starting pully Today I have confirmed low compression 60 psi forward 70 psi in reverse I'm assuming the seals are bad before I order seals is there any other parts I will need and how hard is it to change just seals or do I just rebuild the whole thing once the motor is out it will run in reverse no problem forward not so well is there any thing else to check to confirm its just seals

Re: Bad seal
ive tried changing one thing or another but with that compression you might as well rebuild it. while seals will leak i dont think they will decrease the compression by that much. you can find oversized pistons and rings on ebay and other places. also there are several golf cart vendors that are reasonable. if you find a set with the cylinder too they can be as low as 150.00.

Re: Bad seal
Not sure if seals can lower compression into the 60s. You may have broke a ring or something too. As means of comparison, I am working on a '78 right now. The clutch-side seal was destroyed but the engine still had near 100 psi compression.

Re: Bad seal
Sounds like time for a full rebuild. Needs machining or a new piston and jug. Should do the seals at the same time since they could have caused the problem in the first place. Leaking seals make it run lean which will wear and burn things up in a hurry.

Re: Bad seal
the clutch is the easy part. the fan shroud and flywheel is a pain. the 3 nuts on the clutch then tap the cover off. note there is 80-90 gear oil inside and it is under pressure from 3 springs. once the cover is off you will need to remove the big nut note there are 3 balls that can fall out. pay attention to the order of the parts on the shaft and keep them in order. the back of the clutch/ starter pulley should pop off with a pulley puller. for the front buy a impact driver and at worst a cold chisel. there are free manual downloads through this site
