Re: need carb for 72 model d
I have used 2 of the Chinese carbs without any problems. I would use one to rob parts for my OEM carb. I did buy one for disassembly to measuring parts for future information but I had to use it before I could. I tried to machine parts to rebuild an old Tillotson and was reasonably successful but that was labor intensive. I am using a Chinese carb on my personal 1974 D4 and so far it has been perfect but can't say all will be!

Re: need carb for 72 model d
Unfortunately, the Mikunis can't be mounted on the earlier carts with the Tillotson carbs on them and '76 would fit that bill. The mounting bolts for the Tillotsons are vertical whereas the later Walbro ones were horizontal. As the Mikunis use a horizontal mount they can't be used on the earlier carts as the float bowl would be sideways. (Tillotsons dont have float bowls).
I suppose an adapter could be fabricated easy enough but with the price of a new China carb it probably doesn't make sense. |

Re: need carb for 72 model d
For any of you interested I have a genuine tillotson with manifold and velocity stack for sale on Ebay for a fraction of the $300 + it cost to build this set up. It really ran well on the late model Harley /Columbia engine. Type in "Harley Columbia golf cart induction system " for pics and pricing.

Are you sure they body is worn? I have been into quite a few of these where the shaft was like 1/3 of the way gone and the bore was fine. May be worth checking if you have new shafts.
