My 64 in Upstate SC
Saw some early Harleys floating around on here. Figured I would show off my 64! Its a very preserved example, but does need a good going through. Got to love the Harley logo on the points plate. Currently going through the reversing unit this week so will post about that soon. Have a suntop going on it and plan to fab up a rear seat in it. A couple of Harley options with it; license plate holder, cup holder and the head light (not sure if the side lamps were a option).

Re: My 64 in Upstate SC
Thanks for posting. For the early carts, the bumper was not standard equiptment. Your carry all was I believe an option as well and that was the early style. Several unique features to the early carts such as the score card holder. Hope you have luck getting it going.

Re: My 64 in Upstate SC
I had seen early ads without the bumper but assumed it was just a early design in 63. This 64 is the earliest I have seen in person, never seeing a 63 it has some small design changes that were made mid year (like the steering bar being screwed into the block rather than welded). I have the old service and parts manuals which help greatly while working on this. Currently I have the reversing unt torn down on the bench. Got water in it so not the greatest but will have to do! Luckily I do have a 65 parts cart.

Going through the reversing unit on my cart. I love this early style harley it's unique. Luckily working at a golf course, a lot of times the seals and bearings from the mowers fit and are readily available.

Re: My 64 in Upstate SC
I think the early carts like yours the pumpkin is more centered in the housing and the late models are off set to the right. Early ones have lower gears as the forward/reverse unit did the gear reduction. I've wondered if the gears would swap to a later model for more speed.
Awesome cart by the way. |

Re: My 64 in Upstate SC
It's a Dana / spicer rear but I'm unsure if one could find the gear sets these days.
Going through the driven on my 75. I ordered new rollers and new bushing from vintage golf cart parts. The old bushing is so wallowed out I probably should have ordered a new spring, come to think of it there was 2 of them a big one and small one?? |

Re: My 64 in Upstate SC
2 questions. any change i could get the part numbers for the gear sets. Id love to try and find if anything is still available.
Second have you ever replace what i call the swing arm bushings. Mine are shot and not real sure how to get the old ones out. had a heck of a time getting the bolts out, having to cut one with a sawzll. |

I assume you mean the large rubber bushings that the frame pivots at? I only seen a nos set on eBay once. To get the old ones out, lots of heat and a puller is all I know to get them out. I am not sure but I think gm trucks have a rubber bushing that may fit I need to look into it. http://http://www.corvair.com/user-c...cgi?part=C2050 |
