1974 Harley-Davidson 3 Wheel Cart
My 74 restoration project. All was great until the crankshaft broke off just behind the flywheel. Needless to say I now am in search of a crankshaft or complete engine.

Vintagegolfparts.com certainly can supply you with what you need if someone here doesn't have a good one.

Those crankshafts are like gold. You may want to keep your eye out for a beater whole cart hitting Craigs List. You can probably can a ratty whole parts cart for close to the price of just a crankshaft if you can even find one.

Re: 1974 Harley-Davidson 3 Wheel Cart
I always look for the ads for whole carts. $400 complete cart saves a lot in the long run. Also the clutch spline count changes from the earlier which have more splines tothe fewer beefier splines on the later models. No difference over all but would need the clutch piece to fit the splines.

Re: 1974 Harley-Davidson 3 Wheel Cart
My crank broke in the same place, behind the flywheel just a few weeks ago. Crankshafts appear to be an extinct animal. I spotted a handful of rusty Harley golf cart parts on Ebay and one of those parts was the crankshaft half I needed. (I wasn't gonna' fix it, but the wife and kids whined.) Anyway, $40 (with shipping) later I had the crank half, and a carburetor to replace the one I have with a worn-out throttle shaft.
The crank was pretty worn, but no more so than the other half. Getting it pulled apart and pressed back together, with everything lined up, was a trick without the "special" tools... but I got it done (close enough I hope). Just finished reassembling the engine last night... going back in the cart today. * |

You are right. They are not easy to find. I can't wait to get mine up and running again.
