Fuel draw issues
Finally figured out electrical issues (fingers crossed).
I am not getting good fuel draw. I read through the fuel draw sticky and am looking for other opinions before replacing crank seals. 1976 HD model D . When I bought it it had a Chinese carb with a broken screw on the fuel pump side so I got another Chinese carb, replaced all gaskets from carb back. I tried a 12 volt fuel pump but no improvement on running, just built up back pressure. The engine will run on carb cleaner. I am wondering if I need to replace the crank seals or if anyone thinks I got a bad carb that just won't open diaphragm? Carb cleaned several times and adjustment screws tried at several settings from 1/2 turn out each up to 2 full turns out each. What would your next step be? Also looking for information on if a bowl type carb can be used along with a 12 volt fuel pump instead of the diaphragm one? |

Re: Fuel draw issues
I'd start with a compression check

Re: Fuel draw issues
A fuel pump will work just fine with a diaphram carb. I have done it more than once and it works great. The problem with HDs is that the carb mounting bolts are vertical whereas most carts are horizontal. 82 - 87 EZgo carbs will fit on there size wise but, as HD bolt patterns are verticle, the EZGo carb would be sideways. You could try to fashion an adapter but I have never done it. I am not aware of any other cart that has vertical mount bolts for carbs.
The concern with your cart is that it runs on carb cleaner which I am assuming you are shooting into the spark plug hole. If thats the case then your seals probably do need replaced as you are likely getting gas to the carb but the engine isnt sucking it from the carb into the cylinder. |

That is why I am thinking it has enough vacuum to pull the fuel (carb cleaner) into the engine. As far as using a electric fuel pump and just building up back pressure, would your quess be that the replacement carb is bad? I will have to see if I can rotate 90° what I call the fuel tunnel that carb bolts to and goes in front of Reed plate ( what is the correct name?) Thanks for the info so far.
