Piston and rings question
Hi all.
I am starting a new thread as my last thread was going in a different direction. I am a little confused on what to do here. I have a standard bore cylinder and piston My ring gap (on both rings)is huge as seen in the pic The cylinder wall is in great shape as well as the piston. My plan was to just buy a new set of rings. What do I order? If I order a standard set of rings, won't it still have the same huge ring gap?20170819_142839_resized.jpg |

Re: Piston and rings question
Have you downloaded the manual?
Have you read the manual? If not; I suggest you do so to further your learning. Then compare the pictures of the rings shown within the manual to the pictures you posted. Standard rings will be fine if all you say is true. RTFM. Good luck. |

Re: Piston and rings question
Before you order parts you need to check the bore with an inside mic.
That ring gap is not acceptable and betting its larger at the bottom. These cylinders wear bell shape. Not visible by eyeballing them! The bell shape creates piston slap at the bottom of the stroke. If its stock bore I'll bet its not straight on an engine that old. Its not a big deal or expensive to have it bored and go oversize piston/rings |
