Default Oil mix

Always a good way to start off new on a forum is to start an oil thread :)

yes,i tried the "search " ..

Question is,,walmart air cooled 2 stroke oil 1.5 oz to one gal gas as good as it gets ??
it's just really hard for me to grasp that little oil in a two smoke..
my OPE gets a dyno/synth blend at 50:1 but the cost of the oil is not cheap.so not considered a good option.

just picked up a 1970 HD today and it actually fired on the two year old mix !!!
so going thru the complete fuel system, even new carb ( tilly am ) and am looking for suggestions on oil and ratio.
tnx.

Hi Roncoinc, I believe that's correct 85:1, 1.5oz/gal. That's what I've been running in my Columbia and everything has been running alright. When I got the cart last year it smoked quite a bit, because the previous owner added more oil than necessary.
As for oil I just run the wal-Mart brand, not sure if more experienced members will give me hell about that or not[emoji51]. Back when I rode snowmobiles a lot , Amsoil used to be the stuff to run, but I think those engines saw a lot more abuse than these do. Hope this helps, BTW I'm also new here and no expert, so if I'm wrong on anything I hope someone corrects me.

I have been running Polaris VES Gold Full Synthetic in our old (1994) two stroke quad with good results. I removed the mix oil injection system as I never knew how much oil it was using (but it smoked a lot) and now use a 90:1 mix ratio with the Polaris synthetic. I have seen some of the synthetic oils (Amsoil 2 stroke) suggesting mix ratios of up to 100:1. Sure beats the old 32:1 mix ratio from the early days and the current chain saw / string trimmer ratios of 50:1. If you use a synthetic 2 stroke oil, you should be able to mix at the higher ratios (80:1 - 100:1) and obtain similar or better lubrication than the conventional 2 stroke oils ... and considerable less smoking.

I have been running Walmart's super tech outboard oil for over 12 years in two carts 1.5 oz per gallon. Works great. On the back of the jug it recommends this oil for various air cooled engines. I buy it by the gallon for all my 2 cycle engines.
