Default 1972 'D' running like a top!

I was feeling frisky this weekend so I decided to run through a few chores I've been putting off.

1. Removed and painted both back wheels.
2. Plugged a hole in the RH rear tire.
3. Cut a one piece aluminum diamond plate floor board.
4. Adjusted ignition timing. (first time since i got it)
5. Run a keep-alive hot wire to the radio. (mine has a radio!)
6. Removed, disassembled, and cleaned carb.

I had to use some #2 permatex on some of the carb and intake gaskets as they were too far gone. Afterwards, I no longer have the flat spot in the throttle I've been fighting since I got it. Obviously it was sucking air. To compensate, I had the mixture screw out about 1 1/2 turns. After repairs, I had to adjust the screw back in. I'm at about 3/4 of a turn now. Mine came with a cheap knock-off carb, but it runs like a top!

Runs good. Next task, to make it look good, er.. better!

Awesome. I love saving these old carts.

I just scored #8 with pics in the restoration section.

I love it when somebody posts something like this. It's not all doom and gloom when people use/restore these things. They worked well and served a purpose at one time; no reason they can't now.

That's the idea. A machine is a sum of its parts. If you put happy parts together, you have happy machines.

Talking Re: 1972 'D' running like a top!

One more thing about my repairs. Beforehand, it would GPS out at 18 MPH, but it sounded like it was coming apart, like it was about to come undone. Now, it's about 13-14 MPH, but it sounds much more solid and throaty.

Theory: With the vacuum leak, and the extra fuel, it was like adding 50-100 CFM to the fuel and intake system, albeit some of it was unregulated.

I'm thinking by fixing it, I probably saved it from self destructing.

No governor, didn't come with one.

Thoughts?

Great looking cart. Love the checker plate floor and the baby moon hubcaps!
