Default 75 Harley D. Crankshaft

Gentlemen, I'm trying to do a new post. I have 2 Harley D. carts.
Rebuild the motor on the on the 75.
1. A new top end cylinder replace.
2. Replace all bearings, 2 top end, 1 bottom end.
3. Replace top end seal and bottom seal.
4. New carb. Lots of fuel.
5.100 compression forward, 105 compression backward.
6. First time rebuild, there was spark, but it was very bad.
7. I have the manual, courtesy of BGW
8. So I tore it up again. The seals are solid, no leak, New rebuild,
9. Evidently the crankshaft is directly opposite of TDC.
10. I'm sure Im going to tear it again, but I'll take Pics of the Crankshaft, and try to post them. You will see the dilema. The crankshaft keys should way be should TDC I've seen on the manual, they should TDC. both crankshaft key ways should on top dead center. If i,m wrong please advise me on this.
Thanks Tew45. Forgive me mooncarter, its only 10 yrs.watching
Any way, I'll take the pics and try to learn post them

It doesn't make any deference where the key way is on the clutch side the flywheel side has a key way on the flywheel and one on the shaft so I don't think you can get them wrong unless the key is left out. I haven't checked my stock since the shop is closed now so I could be wrong.

Thanks Tew45, you are absolutely correct. The flywheel has slipped opposite TDC. The key is not on the shaft. I found it on the workbench, after assembly. So it has to come out again, ( third time ). I used a dowel to find TDC and BDC and took pics. I hope they are attached on the post. I,m Learning slowly to work on the mac and the golf cart.

Be sure to put the gasket between the points and cover or it can easily ground the points out making you wonder why you have no spark.

Thanks for Ur post raydhd, yes I do have the gasket between the cover and the points. Unfortunately, for some reason, I forgot the crank key for the crank shaft. Dumb of me!! Tapped it in the crank shaft, put the fly wheel on, but it fell out. Any way I'm trying to post the photos of the key. Could anybody tell me if this is the correct key. Thanks gentlemen.
I found another keyway if the square one is incorrect. It could be modified to fit?

I am not sure and I will not go out tonight and look ( it is almost midnight and I haven't finished my wine. I resist going out in my shop at night for they might be something in there I don't want to piss off. I assume you did not disassemble the crank shaft itself so Just look at where the key fits and if it has a straight flat bottom it requires a square or a rectangular key if it has a curved bottom it has to have a woodruff key. The key needs to fit rather tight with enough coming out of the shaft to fully engage the fly wheel.

So Cool to hear from U. tew45. I took out the crankshaft and replaced the bearings from the crankcase. Didn't disassemble the crank shaft, the crank pin and the bearing crank pin it is solid, no movement. Looked on the web, no parts for the crank shaft anyway unless anyone know about parts. The manual says a reticular key, according to the manual. I've enjoyed all Ur posts, good humour, and expertise. Thanks

Cool Re: 75 Harley D. Crankshaft

Happy New Year to you All. Took out the HD 76 year motor from the cart yesterday. disassembled it.( took me 4 hours and 4 beers. LOL) Found the crank shaft was turning on the counter weight half, flywheel side. Has any one of you ever have disassembled the crankshaft? Is it possible to press out the ignition crank, use loctite , and press it in correctly?
Any help would be great.http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...1&d=1515011332

I have disassembled cranks and reassembled them with a new counterbalance half and it worked well. But you probably should buy another crank shaft. But if you can get another counterbalance that can be done successfully. I use a hydraulic press and a lathe to align the halves. In other words it can be repaired but I really don't think an adhesive will do the job!

Thanks Tew45 . From your seeing the crank photos, is it aligned properly? I've scoured the net for cranks and halves, I can't find any parts. I turned the crank to where I'm thinking it's close to the right place. Can anybody tell me if it's correct?
