Put on new belt, now its so tight that it doesn’t allow the primary to spin and start. Bought the right belt for 1975 D. Any ideas anyone?

Re: Belt to tight
The real belt friction is on the sides of the "V", not the polished shaft. Sitting at rest does the belt clear the sides of the drive clutch pulley?

Re: Belt to tight
Not trying to be a wise guy but double and triple check that belt size and maybe even try another one from another supplier. A lot of suppliers make the mistake of thinking that all HDs / Columbias are the same size but they aren't and even a little bit off on size will make a big difference.
Check you motor mounts to make sure that they aren't shimmed anywhere and are installed correctly. |

the belt I bought replaces my original belt IMC 36394-67. It measured 1 3/16 W X 36 3/8 OD . I just ordered another belt that replaces the IMC 36394-67 but it is almost 1/2” longer. Two different sizes. So I will let you know how it works. Thanks Lochlin |
