Default How to service a '72 HD "Scootaway Drive" transmission/floating flange?

It makes one mention of this on page 4-1 in the manual. Essentially, I'm experiencing a lot of belt slip. The weather has been cold, so I don't know how much that can be effecting it as I've only had it a month or so. The cover plug was missing and stuffed with a pen cap, it looks like there was some little oil residue inside, but should there be more? Will it get better with easier travel of the "flying flange" with warmer weather? Thanks!

Sorry I can't help with that but I'm sure somebody in here knows what you are talking about.

Cold weather can, in fact, impact those but not too too much. When there is belt slippage there is a pretty good chance your motor mounts are worn and thus not keeping the drive belt tight enough.

There should be oil in the "Primary Clutch" or "Drive Clutch" held in with a small rubber bung.
Terminology and most of the help you need can usually be found by searching this forum.
There are also PDF files containing a Parts and a Service and Operators Manual.

Good luck

It is possible a new belt will solve your slippage. Check the width as to the manual!
