Default What do you use your HD cart for?

I am askin because in my last thread my motor seized. I have yet to see why but I will. I was only getting a top speed of 12 so yes it was mostly to the floor but talking to some of you, you guys are claiming 20 mph. That being said I am not looking for a four wheeler or trail king. I am looking for something to take the family around the neighborhood and local camp ground is rather big and has a lot of golf cart type trails you can take your cart on. I am talking like 5-10 mph. I am also asking because if the 2 stroke motor can’t handle a couple miles at 5-10 then I will throw a four stroke in it. However I do like the originality of keeping the two stroke and would be cheaper depending on what failed to rebuild. Surely I am not the only one who like to take the family on a cruise. Thanks in advance

I use mine for golf.
I have installed 4 top ends so far.
Body refurbished 2011 and began using it.
Piston # 1 caused by operator in a hurry "oops, thats was chain saw bar oil'.
Piston #2 caused by operator "oh yeah, the forum said never use premium fuel".
Piston #3 caused by operator installing snap rings for wrist pin backwards (1 rounded side and 1 Harsh angle side from fabrication with a punch press).
I run a 50:1 mix.
I no longer look for top speed.
My Crankshaft seals leak air in causing a lean (HOT) burn.
The air inlet around the point cover often gets completely covered with dry grass.
So hot lean burn at high speed with limited cooling air = trouble.
Good luck and let me know if I can help.
Chuck

Just transportation on slow speed roads on a island off the coast of Maine, speed limit is 20mph but never push it that fast very often, never in that sort of hurry, but the rental carts drive that fast, by mostly drunken idiot vacationers from the mainland.

The road that goes around the island is two miles and the cart gets about 4 miles use per day, to the store, post office, and at least one round the island trip, has no limiter but it does not run flat out but for the one steep hill, i run it a little richer on the oil mix.

So you would say you do 4 miles a day and go about 10 mph and it has been reliable for ya?

what oil ratio?

Its has been reliable, the muffler baffles came loose once, did a top end rebuild too, but that is pretty simple job, 75 to 1 mix ratio i use, 85 to 1 is the recommend but a little extra doesn't seem to bother it. I installed a old Delta Mark 10 CDI unit on the ignition, keeps it in tune forever it seems and never fouls the plug, it has improved it's starting, and needs less choke from cold.

Oh very Nice! I have seen kits for the different ignition and geting away from points and condendor. How much roughly is your mark 10 setup? I see on ebay they are $100 for the box.

They don't eliminate the points just reduce the triggering voltage thereby no point erosion due to the current across them, mine i had in storage, a 70's era ignition mod, those prices on EBay are for classic car collectors consumption, there are more modern units that can do the same for less. check this thread, http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-h...-points-4.html
