New motor rebuild seized up
Used 3.0 oz oil per gallon, to break in motor, ran one mile from home and lost power. When I lifted off accelerator it was making a rattle noise, it went away when I accelerated . Everything is tight motor mounts are tight I am able to turn transmission by hand very tough very upset I spent a lot of money on paying someone to rebuild it . After work I’m going to take the top and off and take a peek inside. Or call the gentleman that Rebuild it let him look at it .

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
There is good news in that, if you can turn the clutch by hand then the motor is not seized. Any idea what specifically the rebuild guy did?
Your problem can still be very basic. Are you able to check and see if you lost spark? |

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
I would pull the cylinder off and check side play on the connecting rod. I don't where someone could get parts for that if it was out of spec.Way back the HD engine I used to run sounded like that with the crank/connecting rod bearings were about to fail.

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
Ok thanks Guys for the quick reply, I will look more in depth when I get home today. I was supposed to get all new rebuild, i’m assuming that would be all new bearings and seals. The piston had broken when I first taking it to him for a rebuild. It ran great for a week.

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
If there is too much side to side play in the connecting rod it will just wear pistons and rings out quickly usually resulting in broken rings or worse.

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
Let the person that rebuild it look at it. He may not warranty it if you pop it open

Re: New motor rebuild seized up
Yes that is about the thickness of a matchbook cover if you need a visual. A real easy test is to pull the cylinder and rock the piston side to side at the top of the stroke. If it moves more than a tad you are out of spec. You can run with more clearance but this allows the piston to "wiggle" in the cylinder resulting in higher piston skirt, lands and ring wear.
