Speedometer question
Hi everyone,
Recently my wife and I picked up a '77 AMF/Harley Davidson Model D 3 wheel golf cart. Our intention is to use it this year to get around Burning Man which is coming up really fast. I wanted to put a speedometer on it just to see how much driving we end up doing (and to keep an eye on the speed as it is regulated) and I was wondering if anyone had put an aftermarket one on their carts. I found 2 from Amazon, one is a GPS model (no brainer it would work) and the other is a more typical speedometer here are the links: GPS: https://smile.amazon.com/ATACH-Digit...5%3A2470955011 Standard: https://smile.amazon.com/Ambuker-Spe...XXYPPECFE&th=1 Now I know that both of these have WAY too many features that will never get used but so far this is what I have found that I can get my hands on easily. I have even thought of getting a bike speedo and trying that out,,,just wondering how to get the magnetic sensors to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have attached pics of the cart also... Thanks in advance, Steve |

Re: Speedometer question
I bought a bike speedo. Haven’t installed yet but I plan to epoxy the magnet to the inside of a rear wheel and use 1/8 aluminum flat bar or something to rig up a mount for the pickup sensor to the axle tube.

Re: Speedometer question
Check out this manual:
It has some good ideas for mounting the magnet and pickup. I think the pickup needs to be less than 10mm away from the magnet. I think this is better than some cheap gps that will probably have spotty satellite signal and take forever to get connected in the first place. With a magnet pickup it will work immediately, every time. |

Re: Speedometer question
I have the el cheapo bike speedo on my 460 powered yamaha G 14. I mounted it with long zip ties to my brake backing plate and brake drum. I have checked it multiple times against my GPS and it is within 1/10 of a mph. It has been in use several seasons. It was less than $5 off of ebay. There is a thread here somewhere other memebers have did the same thing. You just have to make sure your roll out number is correct which is an exact measurement of your tires diameter in a distance situation.

Can you post a link or the actual title of the thread? I’ve changed my view settings so unfortunately “page 4” is irrelevant, but I’d like to check it out. |
