Default Carb difference 66 to 67

Hi everyone. Does anyone out there know what is different between the early (63/66) carbs and the 67 to say 71 carbs.

I have a 66 and replaced it with a cheep Chinese $20 carb. Said it was for 67 and up but for $20 I figured I'd give it a try. I compared it to the original one and it appeared to be the same, just not made in ohio.

Well after re boring the head, new piston and rings, new crank seals, new brushes, new Chinese carb, timing check, new voltage regulater, repaired muffler new plug, cleaned up points (new ones no longer available). I have a running cart for about 4 minutes. Seemed like as soon as I drive it floored for a couple of minutes it kind of peters out slowly like it is running out of gas. I let it cool down and she'll start up again.

I just ordered the rebuild kit for the original carb, cost mor than the whole Chinese carb. Haven't got it yet. I hope this does the trick running out of things to fix.

There must be some difference in the two generations on carbs, I just can't see a difference. Does anyone know if there is???

Some of the Chinese carbs have a flat spot like that, try adjusting the idle mix screw on it, or reset it up to the factory settings, some are a little off in the fuel inlet, maybe?

You may want to look at the inlet control lever setting. I have personally messed with that adjustment but somewhere that I can't recall where , this was a running issue. It could have been on one of the karting sites on adjusting the tillotson carb.

I’ve adjusted the mixture screw from 1/2 turn to 2 full turns and every 1/4 turn increment inbetween. Doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Just ordered a check valve thinking maybe the gas is somehow getting sucked back into the tank at some point. I’m not even sure where it goes. I guess in the fuel line. Or does it go in the bottom of the tank? In the photo it just looked like a small cylinder. I’ll see when it comes.

Still trying to figure out the difference between the 63/66 carb and the later ones.

When the carb setting made no difference it was always the muffler being blocked up.

That check goes into bottom of the tank, it is like this Polaris one, just the same but for a HD more money, https://www.ebay.com/itm/In-Tank-1-4...AAAOSw4CFY8Pu0

I have a new used muffler coming and I still have not received the check valve. The valve was like $25 with shipping. I think it did look something like the polaris one. I don't remember the hose fitting on the end though? I'll see when it comes. Keep you posted.

Normally when the muffler is plugged up it is time for a nice tasty muffler BBQ, put it on a really hot camp fire or grill and watch it burn itself clean, after it cools it gets blown out.

if you have the tool ,it would be advisable to do a ''Pop off '' test on your new carb.i installed a NEW Tillotson and assumed it was right .the proper pop off pressure is as close to 10 psi as you can get it .the NEW one wouldn't pop untill it reached 15 psi .i had to cut the spring to bring it down . its worth a shot.
