Back with more questions on a 77 HD Gas 3 wheel golf cart
Hey everyone,
Well it seems that Spring may finally be here in Northern Nevada...maybe lol So I figured it's time to get the cart ready for Summer and possibly Burning Man again. Question that I had, has anyone added a gauge to their cart to monitor if the generator is actually putting out voltage? If y'all remember last fall, my generator/starter took a major dump on me right in the middle of Burning Man (bummer) but I had it professionally rebuilt, am going to a smaller diameter pulley (in theory the smaller diameter pull will produce more charge at slower land speeds) but I wanted to throw a gauge on it just so I am covered. Has anyone successfully done this to their 77 gas cart? Any diagrams or pictures would be awesome. Also, if someone knows of a write up someplace that would be great as well. Thanks, Steve |

Any generic voltmeter should work fine, or add a cigarette lighter off the battery, and use a USB, voltmeter adapter, https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-1A-USB-Du...ss!14464!US!-1

doesn't the Harley use an voltage regulator? which may also be adjustable. I don't know that id change the pulley, more so make sure your cables and ends are good condition.

The diameter change was suggested by the shop that rebuilt the starter generator (they actually gave me the pulely :) ...the cable ends are new as well...did that before last years burn...have to research into the regulator more...

I was looking on Amazon and found the attached example: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LW1DX...v_ov_lig_dp_it. From what I understand, I can tap into the positive circuit on the key switch and then it should be good to go. On another note, has anyone tried to add a set of jumper lugs to their carts? When we had problems last year with the starter/generator going out on us, we had a devil of a time getting a jump start. It was extremely difficult to get the body open, get the jump, start it and then put the body down and take off while still keeping the cantankerous wee beastie (said with lots of love and affection:) ) running. So I have been mulling over the following: 1. Measure the distance from the battery posts down the side of the battery and under the tray and get heavy duty battery cables to match length. 2. Bolt new cables to battery terminals (still thinking of best way to do this) 3. Mount the new cables to the battery box making sure to isolate them properly. 4 Terminate them under the cart in a Jegs 10314K Jumper Terminal Mounting Bracket Kit: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B007VR7P...v_ov_lig_dp_it This should allow for charging/jumping of the cart with the body down thus eliminating some of the hassles...any thoughts from the experts on this? Has anyone successfully tried it? |

Jumper lugs would be a redundant item on a correctly sorted and reliable cart, if i needed such an item on my cart, i would sell the cart

Due to a neurological disability I have difficulty walking long distances especially when fatigued. In order to appreciate and participate at an event the size of Burning Man, this cart is a necessity. Also the jumper lugs make it easier for my wife to jump start this cart if she ever needed to. |
