72 Harley forward reverse switch

Hi all
Have pretty much a shattered base plate on the switch causing all sorts of problems. Looking online the replacement for the complete switch is pricey. Anyone have any other options or cheaper alternatives?

I am linking for reference only although they run a good shop.

Those switches are tough as they are tough to find and pricey when they can be found. There are some work arounds but none are easy.

You will see on the vintage site that they sell base plates for the F/R switch so you may get lucky and just have to replace it. There is a also a method to convert to to a dual solenoid system that transfers the F/R functionality to a three position key switch. They have the wiring schematic on their site and sell a kit that will get it done. As well, if you search the Columbia section you will see a few older posts where guys did this conversion when Columbia switches became unavailable. It's the same process for the HDs.
