Just got '75 HD gas cart. Newbie.
Hello all...
I just got a 75 HD gas cart in trade for a chainsaw today. It's a little beat up and showing age, but I wanted a new toy. Anyways...the motor turns over when connected to the battery directly but no spark I believe. If I recall there is no key switch and the toggle is busted off. I think there may have been a manual choke too? I was just wondering what I should check first and what size battery I need for this cart. He had a deep cycle marine battery hooked up to it at his place to show me the motor turns over. I was looking online and noticed "golf cart" batters were well over a $100 and closer to $300. Can I get away with using a stander Everstart Max from Wal-Mart for $80? |

Thanks. We can figure this stuff out together. LOL.
I have no idea what I'm doing. Same with the cycle I been trying to fix for the last year. I'm too cheap to go to a shop. |

Re: Just got '75 HD gas cart. Newbie.
So I started taking some parts off my cart and here's where I'm at.
Fuel Tank - Removed tank and drained about 2 gallons of old mix. About an inch of sludge is on the bottom I gotta clean out. Rubber gasket on breather is shot, bottom half of fuel hose fitting broke off and fell in tank, Unscrewed fuel cap to find out the level float assembly rusted off and fell inside long ago turning the mix red with rust. All bad parts are added to my growing list of stuff to buy. Also replacing fuel hose, tank mounting straps and padding. Intake - I cannot figure out how to take the carb off. Do I have to take the Starter Generator off first? Front end - Not sure what controls are what cause they aren't really there. I'm assuming it has a two position keyed switch for on/off power? A manual choke? and maybe a headlight switch? If anyone knows please tell me. I cannot afford a manual at this point as most of my money is replacing worn out parts. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...olfCart026.jpg Wheels - Half moon hub covers are a pain to get off. One of them on the rear I was able to tap out via a hole in the rim from the back with a long screw driver....the other side doesnt have an axcess hole and I cant seem to pry it loose with a screw driver or pic... I want to repaint the rims and put new valve stems on them. I have new rubber picked out but that will most likley be the very last thing I buy after it's running and repainted. Also have to clean up the half moons. Electrical - What are these? I'm assuming the big one on the left is the Voltage Regulator? And on the right is the circuit breaker? What sizes are they? http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...olfCart028.jpg |

I posted two pics. Did they not show up? One of the front end where ignition controls should be and the electrical parts on side of battery box.

I added direct links to the photobucket page. Apparently using the IMG code doesn't work when pasting into forums?
