Default got a harley for a new project

just got a harley davidson from my brother for $100, but im not sure what year it is yes because i didnt bring it to my shop yet. It doesn't run but it idles when you push the peddle but i think it might be something with the carb or timing. its in pretty good shape and it was running good besides smoking about a year ago. im not planning on it working on it much now besides for fixing it because all my time is going to be towards my yamaha.

I don't think it is idling when you push the pedal. I think it is the starter motor running. It will be a great project and a fine cart to play with.

There are several things that could be wrong with it. First you need to find you a repair manual and familiarize yourself with the cart. Buy or borrow a compression gauge. see if your compression is at least 75 or 80 #. It should be 85 to 90#. See if the gas is fresh and clean. See if you have a spark at the plug then if gas and compression is present check for the spark at the right time. If you have fuel, compression, and a spark at the right time it should run.
