Crankshaft end play?
The 73d i have has almost 1/16" crankshaft end play...now, it has piss poor compression and i'm gonna end up rebuilding, but do these motors use shims to eliminate end play?

Re: Crankshaft end play?
I have a 1981 D model and the machine shop tells me that the end play on my motor is adjusted by a lock nut which is used to make the proper adjustment.

Re: Crankshaft end play?
Clearance should be .001-.005. This is adjusted with shims.

Re: Crankshaft end play?
I know this is an old thread, but I'm going back together with my '72 and have a question. When it came apart, I pulled .013" of shims out of the flywheel side of the case. I replaced both bearings, and went together with NEW shims. I tried several sizes, but ended up with ZERO shims and still making the clearances. The bores are clean. Everything goes together good. Just no shims.
Curious if any other builds have had no shims? |
