Default My 74 Model D..and the fun begins...lol

Heres some pics of my 74 Model D. I got her for $400 in value..I traded some of my Model airplane collection for her. She runs and drives.Definitely needs some TLC.I need a headlight switch..air filter..Gonna rebuild the carb..change/check the oil in the clutch and rear.Give her a good dose of new marine deep cycle battery(off my now gone boat..lol). Anyone have a suggestion to something I have missed?

Thanks for all the info you have on this site...Good for the noob carter..

I'd go with an auto Battery,& just Do the normal tune up--Plug,wire,points & condenser, air & fuel filter, rear end oil, grease the forks,Clean out/rebuild the carb,Check/replace the drive & starter belts & you should have yourself a great runnin' girl! (Jebus willing )Heh!
She looks like she has a lot of promise-keep us posted!!!

I gotta get me one of those tops!!!

Like Strawhead said...

Go with a regular automotive battery (group 24 fits the box and is inexpensive). A deep cycle battery is the wrong type; they don't draw much when starting, and begin charging right after start-up.

Unless there's some sort of problem, or signs of leakage, I wouldn't bother changing clutch and axle lube... just make sure they ain't dry.

Sorry for the long time away. Heres the progress so far. I tuned it up. New:plug, air filter, points and condensor.Motor runs good after a little warm up.I topped off the clutch. Now it drives fine,a little sluggish in reverse. Clutch seems to have a "2 speed" moving forward, seems to start a little slow then the cart drives harder..almost like the belt "catches".I did not remove the clutch just added the oil.
I have attached a picture of the drive belt pulley. There is a small hole on the surface. Does this affect the belt?
Sorry for the newbie questions..lol But this is my first buggy..
