77 carb ?
Yea it's me again. Have a question about the carb. I downloaded and printed of the manual, but the pics didn't come out very well. My carb has a (what looks like a add) spring to hold the fuel lever over on the set screw. Then the throttle cable goes thru and has a set screw stopper that goes against the throttle lever on the carb. when you push the pedal it pushes the lever. does this sound right? what throse me off also is the governor. the Throttle stop pushes the throttle lever, and the governor rod goes throw the other way, it will only stop the throttle from going back to stop. Basically the throttle cable goes throw on way and pushes and the governor goes thru the other way and would actually pull the throttle the same way as the cable pushes. This just doesn't add up to me.
If anyone has this same set up and would happen to have a pic. that would be great. Thanks |

Re: 77 carb ?
Under the throttle lever, the carburetor throttle shaft should have a spring coiled around it. The spring should hook on the lever and does not return the lever to idle, but rather holds the throttle wide open. Stepping on the accelerator pedal extends the throttle cable; it should slide freely through the lever so the coiled spring can open the throttle butterfly. Releasing the accelerator pedal retracts the throttle cable which should "pull" (via a hooked end) the carb throttle lever into idle position.
The governor should limit how far the throttle can open (remember, if the throttle cable is unhooked the throttle goes to wide open, via the coiled spring). When the engine isn't running the governor should allow the throttle to go wide open; only with the engine running at around 3000 RPM will the governor limit throttle lever travel. |

Re: 77 carb ?
Thanks so much. I think mine has something missing, I think thats whats throwing me off. My thottle cable is just a cable with a set block that that only pushes the throttle lever. That spring on the lever is is broke so they have a spring that is hooked up to pull the lever to towards the front of the carb on to the set screw. Sounds to me like my throttle is missing anything to pull the throttle back. when let off.

Re: 77 carb ?
I think They just have the set screw ( that is on the throttle cable) on the wrong side. cause right now it is set up just like a normal carb. You pust on the pedal and it pushes the throttle on the carb. Thanks again for the help. It's been driving me nuts. I've torn down many carb so it bugs me when I cant get the little things to work right
