Default I am not sure what I just bought

Hi all, I am new to the golf cart thing. I bought this off Craigslist for my kids, and I'm not sure what it is.

The ad said "Harley Davidson cart", and it says "Columbia ParCar" on the dash, along with a Harley emblem on the front fender and the rearview mirrors.

It's a 2 stroke engine, it sounds like crap right now but my brother and dad are boat mechanics (2 stroke geniuses) so they said they can make it run better. (They said it might just be the belt)

I looked for a serial number in the left wheel well, and on the chassis underneath, but I don't see anything? Trying to figure out how old it is.

thank you! This is a neat forum

ok, these are all exterior pictures, I haven't flipped the top to see the engine yet...I have to take the bolts off the windshield/roof apparently, and then the seats and whole back end flip up. Is this the way that most carts are put together?

I was told it belonged to a guy who drove it on a racetrack in Myrtle Beach, hence "we tote the note" ?

The serial number tag is located by lifting the body up to reveal the chassis. It is on the driver side, slightly behind and above the rear tire, on the round tubular steel frame. In 1982 the company was sold to Columbia Par Car. They used a C prefix for their 80s carts so a C2 would be a 1982 and a D for carts made in the 90s so a D3 at the end would indicate a 1993.The model number will be the first two digits of your serial number.

Ok we took the cart apart today. Last two digits are C8 so it's definitely an 88

Looks like the bushings don't stay parallel when they move, causing the belt to do funny things. It would explain all the weird rattling at higher rpm, and the doggy way that it drives

So we can fix it, but we don't know where the governor is...and I want it to come off! We had to take the whole body off, sit on the chassis and drive it down the street to see what was causing the rattling. It sure is a lot peppier without the body
