Default Harley Runs Good, Low power?

I just bought my 2nd Harley cart. It is a 1978 D4. The cart is pretty well mantained and starts very good with only chokeing required after setting overnight. I did a compression check and got 95 psi (forward) with a clean exhaust of my other cart. It has a new plug wire and air cleaner. I reset the points and messed with the timing. I guess the problem is it just isn't that fast. With no Govenor is runs 14mph on my gps. Even with this high of compression could it have bad rings? I looked at the plug and it is the typical dark brown that my 250r and other 2 strokes typically are. I have yet to add any fuel using what the car came with that was stabil treated and is from late last fall. Is that just as fast as this heavier 4 wheeler will go with out a bigger carb, exhaust, cylinder porting? We use the carts to go 2 miles to the course and my buddies with the 3 wheelers are eating my lunch running 20+. Is there any cheap or easy power mods that can be done to these. I was going to sell my other cart but may keep it for a rebuild and to attempt to figure out 2 stroke porting.

I filled my tires to the recommended PSI (18-22) and got 1 more MPH out of my 3 wheel harley. I suppose on a 4 wheel cart if you have extra toe-in or toe-out, it could slow you down. I can get 18 in the flat or 20 on a downgrade with no govenor.

After talking with my machinest I think I am going to pull the exhaust and look at the rings. Seems alot of the local guys claim they will run and start ok with out a ring or only part of a top rings left.

has anyone ever tried using a hl 360a carb on one? Looks like a direct swap.

Aired up the tires, changed spark plug and checked out my rings last night. Stuck at 14 mph. I was wondering if the generator was pulling alot at wot. If you disconnect the green wire at the regulator I got a solid 1 mph. No you can't run like that all the time but for the times you need a little extra you could put in a toggle.

Charging the battery and changing the rear axle oil I got it to 16 mph pretty easy. Ordered a new carb a HL 360A. The Venturi is .985 Vs .750 Mounted for some trial runs it runs allot faster and keeps accelerating. No GPS yet but I am betting way over 20.

I bought it from local guy that sells Kart parts on the side but is my race engine machinest. If you serch HL 360a they are every where on the internet. There is no place for a choke so I am going to have to figure that out and the throttle lever is on the wrong side so I have the build a cable bracket. On a positive note they are around 85-95 dollars which is far cheaper than what most want for a stock carb. Mine was sloppy wore out. For the difference I can figure out the differences. Bolts right up to the manifold. It is externally dimentionally the same.

Also if you look up HL tillotson carbs they are only made for up too 125ccs so the one that comes stock is way undersized and this one is still small. The bottom end is just as strong if not a little stronger.
