Default it just quit

this'll probably be my last, the cart up for sale, but, THe other day it died at the house i replaced the plug(that didn't look bad, but spark looked weak) then it ran great again. Wife to it camping all week, it died the other night. I went up yesterday and put in a new plug and it ran fine again. I'd put in one cooler plugger to see if I was burning them up or something. when they got back said it was not running very well so I put in the other new one(that was back to the same heat that had been in it earlier) and wont run at all. took it home and the spark still looked weak so I put on another plug wire and still nothing. wont even fire on starting fluid. oh and I don't have a compresion tester ( going to try to borrow one later) but put my finger over the spark plug hole and it will not blow my finger off. took the head off, everything is tight in there, but top of the around the edges of the piston looks like S$%t. looks like something was in there once. I'm pretty sure I know what everyone will say but thought I'd ask anyways. thank ya

Your starting the right way. If an engine has spark, fuel, and air? It should start.

Check for loose wires, coil, and points if they are loose or burnt. Not sure what type cart U have tho to tell ya more

it's a 77 harley 3 wheeler. Pull the plug out and hold to the head and it has good spark. can't reall tell if it's getting fuel. thats why i'd tried the starting fluid, sprayed it in the carb and down the spark plug hole then stuck the plug back in, and nothing, a good backfire now and then. I started to take the carb off but sense it wouldn't fire on starting fluid I didn't do it yet

Ok, look at your fuel pump screen. Try to start with choke on. Look for fuel dumping out of screen. If so? It's getting gas to taht point. Check hoses from pump for cracks of leaks. One small crack in hose will suck alot of air and fuel will not flow.

Mine 73 model has a Walbro carb which I have to clean at least twice a year.
Remove bowl on bottom, them use a needle or narrow pin to clean out sludge around pick up.

just got back in, took apart the carb, has gas in it, (i have the tols.) seems to have a good bit. I took the reeds out and there is gas down in the case. atleast with the plug out, it has very good spark. fuel is getting pulled throw the carb but doesn't seem to be getting to the top of the piston. had the head off again, everything seems very tight.

Did you check check timing/point gap? My buddies 76D was really hard to start and we set the point gap (then timing was right) and it fired right up. Good luck

You need a compression tester. Should be around 80 to 90 PSI. Compression testers are cheap.

Good. An internal combustion engine has to have:
Proper fuel mixture
good compression
a spark at the right time

If the engine has all the above items and does not run seek a higher entity!
