1964 D wireing help
My dad did some trading around and this was a project he aquired. We got this three wheeled harley 64 D cart in several boxes. We have a manual but its not to specific for the 64D of course the one we have.
From the diagram in the book it look like the three black wires on top of the engine case here in picture all to to a power source and then it grounds itself through the chassi. When i put these wires to battery positive they spark really bad. Am i hooking these up wrong? Or is there a problem with the starter itself shorted to ground? Would really appreciate the help. My dad is really counting on getting this going to take my kids (grandkids) for rides around town. |

Service manuals
I was able to download to my computer the service and parts manuals. You will have to do a search on this forum to find the links. Hope you can figure it out. That is the first I have seen of a pre-68 motor compartment. Most here have the later engine that does not have a transmission but instead has a motor/starter-generator/ fwd-reverse switch that allows the engine to start and run in both directions thus allowing foward and reverse without a transmission. In short, your starter/generator will also be different. Sure hope you can get it going.

Re: 1964 D wireing help
Not 100% on this, but I think those wires should go to the control box, which is sort of a voltage regulator/starter relay/cutout relay combination thing.

Re: 1964 D wireing help
They do go to a box. But the schematic in the book shows i have a pin on it and i looked it up and down on box and i have no pin. I will have to look to see what pin they called it D1 i think ill check. Plus the wires are not marked so it hard for me to tell which terminals they go to on that box being that they are all black.

Re: 1964 D wireing help
Just from looking at the photo you have , It looks like the wires are coil and point hookup the two wires together look like the + coil wire and the single wire should go to the points. Just a wild guess!!!!!
